Overview

There was a time when having ‘four-wheel drive’ meant you were either herding livestock or crossing deserts. It was rugged, agricultural, noisy, and unreliable. But thankfully for us, such adjectives as these are not often associated with Porsches. It took a while for manufacturers — and customers — to realise that four-wheel drive meant more grip even on solid road surfaces. In the case of the 911, that means extra security, meaning that you can enjoy it in all weathers.

So now we know that four-wheel drive is a good thing in pretty much any scenario, let us introduce this particular Carrera 4S. It has been owned by the vendor for the past five years, during most of which they tell us that they’ve been living abroad. So it has only clocked up a few thousand miles, being used only when they’re back in the country. But it looks like the owner hasn’t skimped on maintenance, with an extensive service record and invoices showing that it has recently been inspected and serviced.

The interior is a suitably swanky place to be, with its leather upholstery and contrasting stitching showing very little wear for its age. Porsche seems to have come up with a way of stopping time when it comes to their interiors. Us mere mortals can only look on in envy at how well the dashboard, upholstery and carpets have stood the test of time. Stepping into this 911, you would hardly believe that you’ve entered early 2008.

A 997 Carrera 4S with a manual gearbox represents a hugely desirable combination and this is a prime example - don’t let it slip away.
