Overview

Back in 2009 when PistonHeads reviewed this generation of E class as a new model, it was described by its designer as being ‘like a stealth bomber’, thanks to its sharp lines. These crisp folds set it apart from the design trends of the early noughties with their rounded corners and bulbous features. So it looked good then, and it still looks good today: a thoroughly respectable, modern car which you’d be proud to be seen in. 

Especially when you have a look under the bonnet and see the 5.4-litre V8 lurking, ready to roar into action. This engine was carried over from previous models, thanks to being tried and tested, and found to meet the needs of a fast, two-door coupe. It produces bucketfuls of power and torque, and sends them to the rear wheels via a seven-speed automatic transmission, which can be overridden by paddle shifters whenever you want a bit more control. 

The interior is superbly well stocked, with all the bells and whistles you’d expect from a top-of-the-range model in 2010. Adaptive cruise control, ventilated leather seats, and a panoramic sliding glass roof all add to the feeling of luxury which befits the car’s performance. 

In all, this is a very well presented example of a very powerful coupe. It is equally at home at full chat on the Autobahn, as it is swooping along quiet country B-roads, putting the AMG suspension to the test. Truly a car for all occasions.
