Overview

When it made its debut in 2005, the Vantage marked a real turning point for Aston Martin. The new ‘baby’ car was arguably its most important model since the DB7, and was developed in-house under the auspices of Ford’s Premier Auto Group, developed from the ground up at the Gaydon development facility in Warwickshire. It was the company’s intention – and a successful one at that – to make it the fastest-selling Aston Martin ever made.

The Vantage Concept stormed into view at the 2003 Detroit Auto Show and appeared in production form two years later, changed only in detail from the striking show car. The masterpiece of styling came from the pen of Danish-American designer (and later entrepreneur) Henrik Fisker. It was an absolute stunner back then and it still looks sensational over two decades on. Back in 2005, you needed £80k to buy one. Today you can get one for much less – and now is your chance, while they’re still temptingly affordable.

Indeed, play your cards right and you’ll bag one for less than the equivalent Porsche 911 – James Bond never had one of those, did he? But true enough, you can get your hands on this most British of bruisers for a price that will leave you neither shaken nor stirred.

The V8 Vantage Roadster was originally pitched as more of a boulevard cruiser than a sports car, but it was still an epic performance car in its own right and the soft top gets you closer to that fabulous-sounding exhaust. Note, also, that it was called the Roadster and not the Volante, as with previous soft-top Astons – a marketing ploy, aimed at making it clear the car was smaller than previous Astons that had worn the Vantage name.

This one is a lovely example that has been enjoyed – a Roadster in smart Obsdian Black, it has covered over 50,000 miles and has the advantage of the later 4.7-litre engine with 420bhp, 40bhp more than the earlier incarnation. The vendor bought the car from this very platform in 2024 and was instantly besotted with it – so much so, that having realised an Aston Martin was the car for him, he went away and treated himself to a more expensive, next-generation Vantage. He’s just refreshed the MOT on this one, and has also treated it to a recent new ECM – a common issue that the new owner won’t have to worry about.

So, what are you waiting for? A stunning, usable Vantage Roadster with a fresh MOT, ready to go and promising to be quite possibly the coolest car you’ve ever owned.

Summary

There’s rather a lot to like here – a gorgeous looking Aston Martin in one of the most desirable colour schemes, and because it hasn’t lived its life as a garage queen, it’s also one that you won’t be afraid to use.

It’s a bonus, then, that it’s the 4.7-litre, which delivers a healthy power upgrade and considerably more mid-range torque than its 4.3 forebear. This is a baby Aston with a lot going for it, and it’s bound to attract some strong bidding – do you really want to miss out? We don’t, but we’re selling it for the vendor so we’ll just have to accept that we can’t.
