Overview

Beloved of architects, artists, engineering enthusiasts and interesting oddballs worldwide, Saab have long been the go-to brand for anyone looking for a beautifully engineered car with just a dash of the strange and unexpected. And when they’re wearing the ‘Aero’ badge, they usually offer an exceptionally healthy slug of oomph to back up the quirky appeal.

Here we have what is, quite possibly, the perfect modern Saab – an Aero estate in a handsome shade of blue (very Scandi) powered by a turbocharged V6 and with an automatic transmission offering a neat combination of thrills and smooth cruising capability.

This particular example is presented in clean, original condition, with no modifications and a good service record. If you love the idea of a Q-car (and let’s face it, who doesn’t), then a “do everything” estate mated to a 246bhp turbocharged V6 has to be pretty high on your list of perfect dailies. With attractive two-tone leather upholstery, the interior is just as handsome as the exterior, and should be a lovely place to be as the miles waft past.

All in all, we reckon this 93 offers a wonderful mix of qualities and abilities that make it ideal for the UK’s roads. As an interesting, affordable, fun daily driver – and one that’s only going to get rarer – we’re not sure it can be beat.

Look at that – a Saab introduction and we didn’t mention jet fighters once!

Oh…

  • We’re assured by the vendor that the car has no mechanical issues they are aware of

Summary

There’s a reason that no one buys just one Saab. Speak to any Saab owner, and they will nearly always tell you that they have had a number of them – often they are loyal to the point of only driving Saabs. Such loyalty is born from Saab’s fabulous attention to detail, excellent engineering, fine ride and handling, as well as the quirky design touches that distinguish the marque.

To our minds, this 93 Aero Sportwagon is the encapsulation of everything that makes the brand great – superb performance, attractive design, great build quality and a fine level of comfort. As a proposition for “all the car you ever need”, it makes a very strong case for itself.
