Overview
Following on from the success of the first-generation (NA) Mazda MX-5, the second-generation NB was released in 1998 to great acclaim. Taking the award-winning fundamentals of its predecessor such as independent suspension on all four corners, a naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine and razor-sharp handling, the NB packaged the best parts of the NA MX-5 in an altogether more usable package.
The most immediately obvious change was the styling - which included the loss of the iconic pop-up headlights - which was more ‘rounded’ and in keeping with the FD RX-7. The folding soft-top featured a heated glass rear window, and ABS was offered as an option.
This particular NB - an ‘Isola’ special edition - was first registered in October 2000, and is finished in arguably the best colour - Classic Red - but perhaps the most important selling point is the mileage: just 21,798!
Purchased by the vendor - who is just the third recorded owner - as his first foray into MX-5 ownership, this example is the stuff of dreams for those looking to purchase an NB MX-5. Finding an unmodified NB MX-5 in this condition is virtually impossible these days, but to find one with its ORIGINAL hardtop, original glass and still on the stock wheels is the sort of scenario Mazda enthusiasts have unmentionable dreams about.
Reportedly garaged by the seller throughout his ownership tenure and in “well maintained” condition according to the seller’s mechanic (backed up by a clean MoT certificate with no advisory items) this is a rare opportunity to obtain an as-built, un-messed-with NB MX-5, and chances like this don’t come around very often. Don’t sleep on this one!

Summary
Unmodified, original and low-mileage/ownership, this second-generation MX-5 should tick all the boxes for anyone looking to obtain a factory specification NB MX-5. Backed up by a fantastic MoT history and cherished ownership, you could easily press this MX-5 into daily use as an exciting and engaging everyday driver, or perhaps add it to your garage as an analogue weekend toy to act as an antidote to today’s tech and assist-heavy cars.
With just shy of 22,000 miles on the odometer and with only three recorded owners from new, this is an opportunity not to be missed.
