Overview

Credited as the car that saved Porsche from the financial doldrums in the early 2000s, the Cayenne was Porsche’s first foray into the world of SUVs, and has gone on to be a stellar sales performer for Porsche across four generations (at the time of writing) as well as arguably paving the way for other sports car manufacturers to expand their model range to include ‘performance’ SUVs.

Following the success of the first-generation Cayenne, the second-generation model - designated the 92A - went on sale in 2010, and featured a significantly redesigned and modernised aesthetic. The interior benefitted from a major refresh to bring it in-line with the Panamera of the era, whilst the exterior featured a more coupe-like rear window and sloping roof line, wrap-around rear lights and other touches that mean the second-generation Cayenne still looks modern 15 years after launch.

A further facelift was launched in 2014, of which this is an example. For the 958.2 era, the performance ’S’ model featured a 3.6-litre bi-turbo V6 under the bonnet which matched the power output of the V8-engined 958.1 S.

Offered for sale by the second owner from new, this Cayenne is being sold only due to being surplus to requirements for his household, and has been cherished throughout his 15-month ownership. Notably, the sale includes the remaining 12-month balance of a transferable Porsche approved warranty (which is only granted following a comprehensive 111-point check by an official Porsche centre) giving you a fantastic chance to obtain a super SUV boasting an excellent specification and a great service history with a little extra peace-of-mind.

Interior

  • The interior is in very good condition throughout, showing only some light marks and imperfections commensurate with the car’s age and mileage
  • The original Porsche carpet mats have been protected by Porsche rubber mats throughout, including in the boot
  • There is a small scuff visible to the outer driver’s seat bolster and B pillar trim, along with small abrasions on the nearside of the transmission tunnel and on the nearside front door card
  • The nearside rear seat exhibits an indentation on the upper outside edge
  • Looking closer, the high-traffic areas such as the steering wheel, switch gear and door pulls remain in good condition
  • Notably, for a family vehicle, there are no untoward smells or stains noted in the cabin
  • In the rear, the boot is equally clean and tidy, thanks to in part to the use of a protective rubber over-mat
  • Generously specified with heated front seats (comfort memory package, 14-way adjustable), extended leather, adaptive and adjustable-height suspension, dual-zone climate control, mobile phone preparation, rear side airbags, powerlift tailgate, cruise control
  • There are no reported faults from the seller

Exterior

  • The bodywork and Moonlight Blue paint are generally in very good shape throughout, with no noted indentations or impact damage
  • The 911 Turbo Design 21” wheels are half-diamond-cut and present well from a distance, though up-close they have evidence of kerbing and lacquer damage, the latter of which is typical for diamond-cut wheels of this age
  • Generally speaking, the paintwork presents well, though there are some stone chips and light marks to the front end to be aware of
  • Some scratches/chips are present on the outer edges of the front doors, most notably on the driver’s door
  • The nearside mirror cap has a small scrape around 2” long
  • The offside rear door displays a small scratch
  • At the rear, the extended boot spoiler has discoloured, as have the front bumper splitter plastics
  • Overall, it remains very presentable with a few areas that would benefit from a little attention

Mechanical

  • 3.6-litre, twin-turbocharged petrol engine with 408bhp
  • Tiptronic automatic gearbox, driving all four wheels
  • No modifications from factory specification
  • Drives very well with no untoward noises or warning lights; the seller also reports that there are no known faults
  • The engine bay itself is largely covered by plastic trays, but it presents well with no signs of any leaks or staining
  • 4 new ABS sensor was fitted at 41,916 miles (one under warranty by the supplying dealer and the others by PorscheMode in order to have a matching set)
  • 4x new Michelin Latitude Sport tyres were fitted at 48,689 miles
  • The recent Porsche 111-point check highlighted no areas of concern; the brake pads were mentioned as a possible area for attention in the future, but no wear sensor lights have illuminated yet and they were not mentioned at the MoT
  • Plenty of pick-up-and-go performance for you and all the family, but civilised and refined around town or in day-to-day driving

Summary

An ideal family wagon for those looking for a little more poke than your run-of-the-mill SUV, this handsomely specified second-generation Porsche Cayenne S is a fantastic example of Porsche’s jekyll-and-hyde abilities; soft, gentle and well-mannered around town, but able to show a clean pair of heels to most traffic if given the opportunity to do so.

Presented in good order throughout and with the added benefit of a further 12 months of Porsche Approved Warranty, this Cayenne S is ready to be pressed into daily use for its next owner.
