Overview

Some Bentleys have a reputation for being purchased by sporting professionals, footballers in particular. And in the case of this particular Continental it actually was owned by a footballer — at least that’s the story we’ve been told — so we won’t even attempt to dissuade you of this reputation. But for privacy and legal reasons we’ll have to deny you the pleasure of knowing the name of said sportsperson.

Celebrity connections aside, this is still an extremely appealing motorcar, with its four-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 520 bhp and pushing it to a top speed of 192 mph. Four-wheel drive and an eight-speed transmission mean the car can hold its own in terms of grip, handling, and smoothness too.

All this doesn’t compromise the Continental’s luxury credentials. It’s a true grand tourer, with an opulent interior best enjoyed on a long cross-continental tour. Quilted leather seats, deep-pile carpets, and quality fittings all make the cabin a very pleasurable place to be.
