Overview
Building on the runaway success of the first-generation Boxster — the 986 — Porsche were careful not to stray too far from their newly discovered winning formula when they revealed the 987, which was first shown at the Paris Motor Show in 2004. It was about eighty per cent newly designed, but retained the non-negotiable rear-mid flat-six engine, and well-known styling.
The example we see here was sold via Porsche’s Park Lane dealership, being delivered in January 2005, so it is an early example. The first owner kept the car until 2009, when it was sold to the current keeper, who has owned it for the past 15 years. Looking at the car’s general condition, its two owners have treated it well over the years.
Specially-ordered GT Silver paintwork suits the car’s styling, and the interior features extended Cocoa leather — a special order option when new — which gives a warm, comforting feeling. Settling into those fully-adjustable supportive leather seats for the first time in January 2005 and heading out onto Park Lane, the first owner would have felt like they had just experienced their favourite armchair at their club.
But once they left the city, they would have been able to experience the Boxster’s performance for the first time, with that naturally-aspirated flat-six whirring away behind them. It sends its 272 bhp to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission, allowing a direct and responsive driving experience.
So if you’re looking for a low-ownership Boxster which has clearly been looked after over the years, then this ’S’ has a lot to offer.
