Overview

The Mk3 Ford Focus RS marked a significant return for Ford’s performance lineup. Launched to rave reviews, it’s powered by a 2.3-litre EcoBoost turbocharged inline-four engine, producing 345bhp. This performance gives the Focus RS an impressive 0-60 mph time of 4.6 seconds, making it one of the fastest in its class at the time and no slouch today either. Coupled with a 6-speed manual transmission, it’s a proper driver’s car.

As many will know, one of the standout features of the 2016 Focus RS is its sophisticated all-wheel-drive (AWD) system, which includes a unique torque vectoring system capable of sending up to 70% of the power to the rear wheels and apportioning torque to individual rear wheels. This system significantly enhances the car’s cornering ability, allowing for razor-sharp handling and excellent grip, even in challenging conditions. The versatility of the set up is unleashed with four drive modes: Normal, Sport, Track, and Drift. The Drift mode, in particular, was a groundbreaking addition, allowing drivers to execute controlled slides by manipulating the AWD system.

On the exterior, Ford didn’t disappoint, retaining the usual aggressive RS design that reflected its high-performance capabilities. The large front grille, functional rear spoiler, and signature RS badging give it a purposeful stance. Inside, no RS would be complete without a set of Recaro seats finished in leather and embroidered with the RS logo. These and a superb options list make the Focus the ideal practical hatchback, but let’s be clear, its main attraction is its excellent handling and performance.

With just shy of 65,000 miles, this Ford Focus RS appears to have been pampered to within an inch of its life! The condition, both internally and externally, is excellent, backed up by a fantastic service history. • Paintwork in excellent condition with just a few very minor age-related chips, marks and scuffs, which can be seen in the photographs

• Headlights, fog lights, and rear lights are free from splits or cracks in the lenses
• Factory-tinted rear windows
• All windows are free from noticeable scratches
• RS badges are present and correct on the bumper and boot
• 19-inch gloss black alloy wheels with no signs of corrosion
• There is a small mark on the passenger side front wheel, which we reckon could be easily touched up
• Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres; the rears are relatively new

Mechanical

• Factory standard 2.3-litre 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine
• Approximately 345 bhp and 346 lb-ft of torque
• The engine fires up without hesitation and runs with no issues reported
• Six-speed manual gearbox
• The gear change is smooth, and the car pulls strongly through the gears
• Brakes bring the RS to a stop in a straight line
• New rear discs and pads fitted in June 2024
• No knocks or bangs reported to come from any corner of the car
• Factory exhaust sounds fantastic, especially on the move and on overrun

Summary

At some point in life, you will probably want to own (if you haven’t already had the pleasure of something from the Ford RS range), and rightly so, it is a definite must for any self-confessed petrolhead.

With that in mind, the next question is: which one? Yes, there are plenty to choose from if you have deep pockets, but the Mk3 Focus RS is currently at a price point that offers a very well-priced hot hatch with an excellent performance package, making it an extremely appealing RS.

This 2016 example ticks all the boxes. With its excellent condition and service history, it is perfect for any RS fan to jump straight in and experience the modern Ford Focus RS.
