Overview

Porsche raised a few quizzical eyebrows when they announced the Cayman almost twenty years ago. It wasn’t immediately obvious to some journalists why you would want to take the soft-top Boxster and put a metal hat on it. But now, with the benefit of age, wisdom, and experience, we can agree that the designers at Porsche were undoubtedly onto something. It’s an entirely different car.

The example we see here is the ’S’ model, which means it gets a 3.4-litre engine. This is the usual flat-six arrangement, and is naturally aspirated for immediate power delivery. And a factory-fitted sports exhaust system allows you to enjoy the symphonic roar of all those cylinders in glorious harmony.

Finished in a very punchy shade of red, this Cayman is smart yet undoubtedly fun. The seller tells us of the hours spent massaging ointment into the leather trim, and lovingly polishing and waxing the paintwork. They have collected an impressive set of servicing invoices over the years, with the car having spent most of its life being serviced by the same Porsche garage. Its first owner worked with military precision, booking the car in for a service every two years in February, without fail.

So if you’re looking for a Cayman in a fun colour scheme, which has clearly been lovingly cared for, then this example is going to offer you a lot to enjoy. Especially when you put your foot down and hear it rumble.

Summary

Initially questioned for not being a 911, the Cayman has long since banished all the doubters and is a well-respected member of the Porsche model range.

The list of reasons to buy this particular Cayman is extensive: comprehensive service history, fun colour, supple leather, polished paint, big engine, sonorous exhaust… We think it will make its next owner very happy.
