Overview

There can’t be many questions in life which you couldn’t answer with a great big V8. This has been the case since Karl Benz first shuddered his way along the cobbled streets of Germany way back in the black and white mists of the 19th Century. If his spindly, three-wheeled car — the world’s first — had been fitted with eight cylinders instead of just one, the naysayers and doubters would surely have been won over by its noise, its temperament, and its soul. The startled horses and gathering crowds of onlookers would have seen his car and known: this is the future.

Sadly PistonHeads writers aren’t let near school history textbooks. Instead we spend our time worrying about performance figures and service histories so you don’t have to. And having gone over this particular C63, we can report that it’s pretty ruddy good.

As well as its V8 engine — which is customarily described using vocabulary such as phenomenal, fabulous and fantastic — this car has all the bells and whistles you could hope for, with an option list a mile long. Being the AMG Edition 125 model it comes with plenty of power, torque, speed, and acceleration, as you would expect, as well as styling enhancements and big wheels.

This Mercedes is the kind of car you can enjoy hooning about in when the fancy takes you, exploring the possibilities of that enormous V8 under the bonnet. Then when you’re finished making loud noises and tyre smoke — and you need to arrive somewhere looking smart and respectable — you can simply adjust your tie and sidle into the swankiest of venues without anyone batting an eyelid.
