Overview
Rumour has it that owners of Maserati 3200GTs are contractually obliged to inform as many people as possible that their car was the first production model to be fitted with LED tail lights. Not just their nearest and dearest, but anyone at the pub who will listen, and preferably a few who won’t, as well as the local postal delivery operative person.
Now that this extremely interesting fact has been dealt with, we can appreciate the 3.2-litre V8 which sits under the long bonnet of this Maserati. And the fact that it is force-fed by a brace of turbochargers. This allows it to produce a very respectable 365 bhp and reach 174 mph, with a 0-62 mph time of five seconds exactly.
And perhaps even more impressive than this is the extremely leathery — and in this case extremely red — interior, which features seats which deserve a place in a museum of modern art. Not just the front seats, mind, the rear seats are equally well-sculpted and appear to be designed for use by actual human beings, which is a notable feature compared with many a grand tourer.
Our example is accompanied by a reassuringly hefty folder full of servicing invoices, and a correspondingly well-stamped service booklet. This includes records of a cambelt change in 2020, a clutch change in Aug 2024, and plenty else besides.
The 3200GT marked a change in Maserati’s image, with flowing lines and rounded corners replacing the more angular styling of previous models. It proved a hit when new, and now it’s looking like a very tempting way to get behind the wheel of a V8 grand tourer.

Summary
Once you’ve finished entertaining your fellow pub-goers with LED light facts, you can sink into the luxurious red leather interior of this Maserati, and you’ll be able to explore the limits of its 3.2-litre turbocharged V8 in comfort and style. And you can even share this experience with three other passengers.
To our eyes it’s aged beautifully and although you’ll need to budget appropriately for running costs, we think this looks like a cracking modern classic.
