Overview
The first high performance Ford to answer to the ST200 moniker made its debut half a century ago, as a by-product of Ford’s Super Touring days in the British Touring Car Championship.
Those BTCC days are long gone, but the name lives on – having spawned a succession of sporty Fords that weren’t quite hardcore enough to wear the RS badge in the process. Think XR, but without the shoulder pads and red braces.
The most recent ST200 is a very different beast to that seminal Imperial Blue Mondeo, though. Introduced in 2016 and for one year only, the Fiesta ST200 was a pocket rocket in the perfect PistonHeads package.
By that, we mean it wasn’t some cheaply produced juvenile hot hatch, but more a well-honed car with which Ford’s engineers went out of their way to exploit the Fiesta’s already excellent chassis. It was – and remains – a cohesive and polished car to drive, its popping and crackling exhaust giving it a cheeky character that’s offset by a remarkably mature dynamic package. If you know that the ST200 is, you’ll know it’s a whole lot more than a Fiesta with 212bhp. Indeed, if we were handing our RS badges instead of Ford, we’d be tempted to pop one on its rump, especially now the Fiesta has itself been consigned to history.
The vendor of this example certainly felt it was special when he bought this example in 2021, going out of his way to find an immaculate example with a proper main dealer service history. He loves it that much that he has banned any of his passengers from eating or drinking in the car during his tenure.
Apart from a Maxton Peron body kit, itself a desirable and (like most Maxton kits) tastefully subtle enhancement, the Fiesta is mechanically standard and – according to the vendor – has always been run up to temperature before being driven enthusiastically.
It’s a bit of a gem – Fast Ford, hot hatch, modern classic, or however you choose to address it, it’s a car that oozes appeal.

Summary
Fast Fords have had a following ever since people started making hot rods out of Model Ts, so the ST200 follows in a fine and established tradition. Fast Fiestas have existed before, but this one trumps even the original RS Turbo for its appeal to the driving enthusiast.
As a modern classic that you can use every day, confident that you’ll never get out of it without a smile, it’s hard to beat.
