Overview

420 horses is a lot of horses by anyone’s calculations, so when you shoehorn them into a flat-six engine and send their galloping hooves to the rear wheels of a 911 via a 7-speed double-clutch transmission, you’re going to be in for a hell of a ride.

That’s not the only reason you’ll be wanting this 991. It’s bright red, obviously. And it’s got a folding roof, obviously. But less obvious is the ‘Sport Chrono’ pack which includes a strangely intriguing analogue timing clock on the dashboard. And a little button on the steering wheel that unleashes a variety of clever modes depending on how stiff you want the ride to be, how snappy you need the throttle response to be, and even when to deploy the automatic rear spoiler. Hours of amusement can be had perfecting your own customised setup.

In addition to all these mechanical wonders, the car is presented in superb cosmetic condition throughout. Its red paint remains vibrant, and the flashes of colour continue on the inside, where the black leather contrasts beautifully. The upholstery and carpets are very well preserved, and the dashboard is well appointed with everything you’d expect from a car of this stature.

So if you’re looking for a very capable drop top 911, which has been well looked after, then this car is certainly worth a bid. When the roof is down and you’re settling into your fully customised drive mode, heading for the twistier bits of the countryside, you won’t regret it for a moment.

History and documentation

  • Registered 16 Mar 2016
  • Stamped service book with services as follows: Apr 2018 @ 5,803 miles, Jul 2020 @ 26,940 miles, Apr 2022 @ 42,909 miles, Oct 2023 @ 52,741 miles, Jun 2024 @ 61,124 miles
  • There is a mileage discrepancy on the MOT history which is due to an input error at the MOT station in 2022; the invoice for the MOT shows the correct mileage against the private plate that we can confirm was on the car at the time
  • Both the DVSA and National Mileage Register have been informed and requested to correct the error
  • Most of the service stamps are from Porsche main dealers
  • Original Porsche document wallet
  • Only three former keepers
  • Two keys
  • Current MOT with no advisories expires 19 Jun 2025
  • V5 present in owner’s name
  • HPI clear
  • London ULEZ compliant

Interior

  • Stepping inside this 911, you notice just how well presented everything is, the black leather upholstery contrasting well with the flashes of red trim which matches the car’s body colour
  • The beautifully stitched leather is very well presented throughout
  • Even the driver’s seat bolster is hardly worn
  • Timing clock on the dashboard, part of the Sport Chrono pack
  • Also includes a selectable button on the steering wheel controlling all sorts of ride options
  • Two rear seats for occasional use
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control
  • 16-way adjustable, heated seats
  • All the buttons and switchgear look fresh and hardly used
  • Automatic rear wind deflector
  • Cabriolet half cover
  • Apple car play fitted
  • The front luggage compartment is carpeted and surprisingly spacious

Exterior

  • Finished in Guards Red, this Porsche is built to be noticed
  • The vendor informs us that it was treated to a stage 2 paint correction and ceramic coating with 5 year lifespan upon purchase and has been maintained weekly
  • As a result, the paintwork looks to be very well presented
  • It retains a deep shine and bright colour
  • Black vinyl bonnet stripes show that this car means business
  • The black folding roof looks smart, with only a few creases from storage
  • Rear parking sensors
  • The headlamp lenses look clear, and free from haze
  • There are a few stone chips to the front and inside the wheel arches
  • From what we could see, the underside looks very clean and tidy for a car of this age
  • The car sits on 20-inch ten-spoke alloy wheels
  • They are fitted with a set of Pirelli PZero tyres, which the seller reports were freshly fitted this year

Mechanical

  • 2,981cc flat-six petrol engine
  • Produces 420 hp
  • This ’S’ features larger turbochargers than the base model, as well as a 10mm lower tide height
  • Seven-speed S-auto transmission
  • This is a PDK double clutch unit
  • The Sport Chrono’s selectable drive modes include Ordinary, Sport, Sport Plus, and Individual, each with varying degrees of suspension stiffness, throttle response, and more
  • Most recently serviced in Jun 2024, including fresh spark plugs
  • Vibrant red brake callipers
  • The car will be serviced (including new spark plugs) and MOT’d prior to sale

Summary

Honestly, there’s not a lot to be said against any 991.2 in our opinion. When you add some bright red paintwork into the mix then it just gets better and this car has obviously been beautifully maintained. Then our inner nerd’s interest is piqued by the analogue clock and infinitely customisable settings available with the Sport Chrono pack. And all of this sits on top of a masterpiece of design, with enough power to keep you occupied when you want, and enough refinement for everyday use.
