𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄
You could say that the E93 M3 Convertible is the Swiss army knife of performance convertibles. No, not because of the physical resemblance when the folding hard top roof is part way through its balletic opening and closing routine, but because it really is a car for all seasons. Subtle enough in its looks to pass under the radar but imbued with enough presence to draw the eye of the petrolhead, it’s armed with all the kit and refinement to deliver everyday usability, that party-piece of a roof that gives you options for all weathers and it’s equipped with the glorious S65 V8 motor to provide thrills when the opportunity arises. In the real world, it’s hard to think of another single car that covers so many bases on the road.
Of all those aspects, it’s surely the frenetic motor that will grab the attention of PHers, good for 420hp at 8,300 rpm and 295 lb ft of torque that arrives at 3,900 rpm, it’s an engine that likes to be revved. But mated to the seven-speed M division dual clutch gearbox with variable shift speeds, it delivers a level of versatility ranging from burbling around to really on it. And with the option to put the roof down, you can enjoy the sonics more readily. Adjustable suspension only adds to the size of the operating window.
This example comes with both the DCT and EDC (M-speak for adjustable dampers). Having covered just 32k miles, with very few of those in the last six years, and the variable interval servicing reflecting that, it’s clearly been a high days and holidays car and it’s in accordingly fine condition. Sure, the wheels could do with a tidy if you’re fussy but otherwise this is the kind of car that you could enjoy preserving; equally, given the level of kit that is on board, you could quite happily use it as a daily. Whichever way the next owner chooses to use it, it should retain the capacity to entertain for many years to come.

𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿
• Black leather upholstery and brushed aluminium dash inserts provide a neutral but classy ambience
• The kit list includes BMW Professional sat nav, heated seats and heated folding mirrors
• There’s some wear to driver’s outer seat bolster but otherwise the leather is in good condition
• Very clean and tidy boot with original tyre mousse kit under the floor
• Overall, it’s well preserved and reflects the limited usage that the car has seen
𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿
• Metallic grey and the relatively understated design of the E93 help this car to make discreet progress
• If you know what you’re looking for, then the bonnet bulge and quad exhausts give the game away
• The paintwork is in very good order with only a few minor stone chips to the front end
• The wheels and centre caps are in reasonable condition but do show some age-related marks and minor scuffs
• Tyres are all Pirelli P Zero with hardly any wear
• The BMW badge on the bootlid is slightly degraded but could easily be replaced
• Underneath, it looks to be very clean
• In summary, it presents generally very well and with a few items taken care of it would be among the best
𝗠𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹
• 3999cc V8 rated at 420hp at 8,300 rpm, which gives some clue as to its character
• 7 speed M-DCT gearbox with paddles on the steering wheel and adjustable shift speed
• Drive is sent to the rear wheels via a limited slip differential
• Has the desirable option of Electronic Damping Control which gives 3 settings for the dampers
• The last service invoice in Jan 2024 shows 3mm remaining on rear brake pads, which will need replacement soon
• Otherwise, the only issue reported is a slight leak to the differential input shaft
• Very low mileage for its age should bode well for its mechanical condition
𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆
The E9x M3s look like they will go down in history as the only versions to carry a V8, and what an engine it is. Combined with the versatility of the folding hard top convertible and the M-DCT gearbox, this E93 makes a compelling case for being a fabulous all-rounder.
